WHOLE FAMILY WELLNESS
Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on the relationship between the body's musculoskeletal structure--mainly the spine--and its effects on the nervous system and general health of the human body. Proper positioning and movement of the spine allows for proper functioning of the nervous system. The nervous system, as defined by Gray's Anatomy, controls and coordinates every system in the body. These systems inlclude your respiratory system, digestive system, reproductive system, immune system, and many others. "Chiropractic" means "done by hand". Chiropractors use adjustments to restore joint function and support the nervous system .
Pregnancy & Women
Chiropractic reduces stress to the spine and nervous system, which promotes health and healing in the body. The body undergoes many changes during pregnancy, including postural adaptations, increased back curve, and changes/misalignments to the spine and pelvis. The pelvis and uterus are directly attached through ligaments. When the pelvis is misaligned, there is added tension to the uterus, much like stretching an inflated balloon. This may restrict the amount of available space for your baby to move and grow. Chiropractic works to realign the pelvis, promoting optimum pelvic and uterine position.
Chiropractic care is a great way to begin wellness-based, preventative care for your entire family. Many problems that adults experience may have began as early as birth. Birth traumas as well as other minor and major traumas throughout childhood can cause misalignments of the spine. During the first five years of life, the body produces more neural pathways (connections between the brain and the nervous system) than at any other time. That is why it is vital to incorporate chiropractic care into your child's wellness check-ups to ensure that their spines are free of misalignments and their nervous system is developing properly throughout each of life's milestones. Even if your child is in excellent health, minor traumas from bumps and falls can accumulate overtime and result in discomfort and/or health issues in their teen and adult years.
Whole Family Wellness
In today's world, our bodies are exposed to many stressors: from falls on the playground to a stressful day of work. Incorporating routine chiropractic adjustments into your family's wellness health plan is a great way to ensure that your nervous systems are free of stress and your bodies are functioning optimally.
The atlas is the bone at the top of your spinal column directly below your skull. Blood vessels, nerves, and your brain stem extend down through the atlas. If your atlas is accidentally knocked out of alignment, it may impair the blood flow, the nerves, or even the brain stem. Should this happen, it may result in many overlooked and untreated medical conditions. An Atlas Orthogonist is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic that has extensive training and post-graduate work specializing in correcting spinal realignment by means of an atlas orthogonal percussion instrument. X-rays indicate if the atlas is in or out of alignment and the resulting adjustment that is required will put the atlas back into place. The orthogonal percussion instrument method is gentle, completely painless, and effective in adjusting your atlas; no heavy upper cervical neck manipulation takes place with this technique. When your atlas is returned to the proper alignment, you restore the correct balance to the underlying spine and skeletal system. This process allows for your body to heal itself in many circumstances. The atlas orthogonal percussion instrument is a percussion instrument that uses a light force to painlessly adjust your atlas resulting in a spinal correction that returns your body back into balance. Dr. Hawkins is board certified in the Atlas Orthogonal technique.
