FAQ's

Who can benefit from chiropractic care?

Chiropractors treat people of all ages, in all economic and social spectra and ethnic groups. The need for treatment can arise from an injury, as a result of aging, repetitive use, misalignment of the spine or preventative care. Newborns, children, working men and women, pregnant mothers and older adults consider chiropractic care beneficial.

What is an adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is the art of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is misaligned and does not move correctly. This adds movement to the joint and places the bone in its correct position. The purpose of this safe and natural procedure is to eliminate interference to the nervous system and improve spinal function and overall health. There are many ways to adjust the spine. Usually, the doctor's hands or a specially designed instrument delivers the adjustment.

Will the adjustment hurt?

Adjustments usually do not cause pain, but can become uncomfortable depending on the amount of swelling and tension in the affected area. Some patients may notice slight sensitivity and/or tension when the adjustment is made.; these feelings are normal. You may experience some pain after the adjustment, much like being sore after a workout at the gym. This is to be expected.

Can I adjust myself?

Since a chiropractic adjustment is a specific force, applied in a specific direction, to a specific spinal joint, it is practically impossible to adjust oneself. It is possible to twist or bend in certain ways to create a popping sound, like the sound that sometimes accompanies a chiropractic adjustment. Unfortunately, this type of joint manipulation, although it seems to offer some relief, is often counterproductive, and often makes the unstable area of the spine even more unstable. Adjusting the spine is not for amateurs! Chiropractors train for years to provide specific adjustments to certain segments of the spine.

Once I go to the chiropractor, do I have to go back?

It all depends on you and your health goals. Because each individual is unique, it is difficult to know how many times they will have to be adjusted to achieve each of their health goals. Just like going to the dentist periodically to keep your teeth clean and free of cavities, it is better to keep your spine in the proper working state than to wait for the pain to appear again.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. It is the safest non-invasive and drug-free therapy for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal conditions.

How much time until I feel better?

While some patients experience almost instantaneous relief, most patients feel better in one or two weeks. There are many factors that affect your healing rate, such as your age, the type of injury, your general health status and how long you have had the problem.

I have no pain, should I still see a chiropractor?

Preventive chiropractic care is very important when it comes to your health and well-being in general. Make sure your spine is aligned and that your nervous system is working properly, even if you do not experience any pain.

Why should children receive chiropractic care?

The birthing process, as well as bumps and falls on and off the playground can cause spinal misalignments. Chiropractic care promotes the healthy development of the brain and nerves as they grow and can help prevent problems with the spine that emerge in adulthood. Adjustments for children are very light, and the amount of pressure used is much like the pressure you use to to check the ripeness of a tomato. Many babies even sleep during their adjustments!

Why should pregnant women see a chiropractor...and is it safe?

Chiropractic can be very beneficial for both the mother and the baby. Many pregnant women find that chiropractic adjustments are very beneficial for pregnancy discomfort, such as low back pain, but they also help to promote proper alignment and movement of the pelvis and ligaments that are attached to the uterus. The specially designed pillows we use during the adjustments of pregnant mothers ensure the comfort and safety of the mother's stomach so that she can relax completely during her adjustments. The adjustments are light, safe and effective.
